Background Information

Dr. King completed his PhD at The Ohio State University and focused his doctoral studies on mental health service use, mental health distress and resilience.  During his advanced studies he completed his internship at the Veterans Affairs Hospital concentrating in the acute and long term psychiatric units as well as the Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

He further focused his practice working as a therapist within community mental health for the State of Ohio, along with providing evaluations and assessments for those in crisis.  Additionally, Dr. King has conducted numerous therapy groups and workshops. 

He has been a past faculty member at both Marshall University and the University of North Carolina.  Additionally, he has taught courses at several area colleges and universities as an adjunct professor.   Dr. King has presented his research work at several state and national conferences.   Additionally, he has many journal publications and several book chapters. In 2006 Dr. King was one of 20 dissertation students across the country to receive the Hartford pre-dissertation award, and in 2009, he received the prestigious Jane B. Aron Doctoral Fellowship. Dr. King has presented his work at both state and national conferences.

In practice, Dr. King focuses on a strengths based approach using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness Meditation, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, and Family Systems Therapy Interventions.


Dr. King holds several advanced degrees. A Masters of Business Management from Friends University, and a Master's and PhD in clinical practice and research from Ohio State University. While at OSU, he also earned a minor in research methods and an interdisciplinary specialization in aging.
